Women, guardian of Kihnu's culture

Kihnu and Manija are tiny Estonian islands located in the Baltic Sea, south west of Estonia. This 600 persons community's traditions have been kept over centuries essentially by women as the men were at sea to hunt seals and fish. The Kihnu Cultural space is inscribed on the UN as an Intangible cultural Heritage of the Humanity.

Sur l'ile de Kihnu, dans le golfe de Riga au sud ouest de l'Estonie. Les traditions de la communauté de Kihnu inscrites au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco, sont essentiellement perpétuées par les femmes qui prennent aussi en charge une bonne partie de la gestion de l'île lorsque leurs maris sont en mer pour pêcher.
